Is it actually soft?
Yes. Our 3-ply rice paper is designed to feel as soft as traditional toilet paper. The first reaction after touching is "Wow, it's actually soft."
Why isn't it bright white?
Because we never bleach it. White & cream toilet paper gets its color from chlorine bleach. Otherwise a tree or bamboo would never appear white. Paddy's natural rice color is the color of the rice fiber itself.
Is it septic safe?
Yes. Paddy toilet paper breaks down quickly in water and is safe for household plumbing, septic systems, and RVs. The finished tissue’s wet strength was lab tested by our tissue manufacturer (one of Thailand’s largest) and confirmed to fall within the range for septic-safe toilet paper.
Is this made from food?
No. Paddy is made from rice straw, the dry stalk left after rice is harvested. The rice grain becomes food. The rice straw is normally burned. We rescue it before it's burned. The rice straw pulp we used has been approved for food grade contact.
Why rice instead of bamboo?
Rice straw already exists as a waste. We're not growing anything new. Bamboo has to use new land in order to grow, with large amounts of land and forest cleared just to grow new bamboo! And because it's entirely grown and manufactured in China, a massive portion of those climate savings is wiped out by the carbon emissions of shipping across the world.
